National Networks for Women in STEM

We can’t do this alone. We all need each other. As female scientists, we are standing on the shoulders of the many women who came before us, removing incredible obstacles and paving the way for our generation. We can learn from our predecessors that this is a journey best undertaken together—working together with our peers, learning from mentors, and reaching out to and mentoring women who will come after us.

As women studying science, it’s our time to get involved too—on the national and local levels. What great things can our new generation accomplish together?

One of the largest recognized barriers to the success and advancement of female students is a feeling of disconnection from others in their fields due to an absence of female role models.

Earth Sciences Women’s Network, ESWN

ESWN is an international peer-mentoring network of women in the Earth Sciences, many of whom are in the early stages of their careers. Our mission is to promote career development, build community, provide opportunities for informal mentoring and support, and facilitate professional collaborations.

Association for Women Geoscientists, AWG

The Association for Women Geoscientists is an international organization devoted to enhancing the quality and level of participation of women in geosciences and to introduce girls and young women to geoscience careers. Membership is open to anyone who supports AWG’s goals. Our members include:

  • professional women and men from industry, government, museums, academia, and K-12 teachers

  • others interested in supporting our goals

Our diverse interests and expertise cover the entire spectrum of geoscience disciplines and career paths, providing unexcelled networking and mentoring opportunities. Our membership is brought together by a common love of earth science and the desire to ensure rewarding opportunities for women in the geosciences.

Association for Women in Science, AWIS

American Association of University Women, AAUW

Society of Women Engineers, SWE
